Wedding Trends: A Black Tie Affair

Is it because of the ravishing Daniel Craig in the popular 007 films or the general public’s huge appetite for couture and a night of glam and high fashion? We can’t be sure where it is coming from, but formal weddings are what’s “in” for 2014.

With more and more time spent at work and less with family and friends, I for one welcome the trend of getting dolled-up and having a night of fun and dancing in honor of a friend or family member’s very special celebration. What I like about this trend is that it takes the wedding beyond showcasing your fabulous dress and shoes but also invites your friends and family to do the same for just one night; to step out of the normal business suits, jeans and tee’s and get fancy for your big day. Is it too much to ask? Not at all! You spend hours going over every detail, planning every move, and buying that one very special gown, not to mention the effort spent on décor and the venue; the least your guests can do is come dressed to impress.

Now the “black tie affair” does not mean your wedding theme has to be black and white. Fashion and décor trend-setters invite the inspired to be creative; to mix and match the palette. But the votes are in and it’s definitely trending to the formal evening. So whether you are inspired by the likes of James Bond or a night on the red carpet, this year ask yourself “ is a black tie affair right for me?”
